JULY 2 2026
Today is oppressively hot, yesterday too. Last week I had thursday off, this week I have to work. On my day off last week I ate a bit of Swiss cheese and painted a picture of a blue man in a patch of flowers. When finished with my painting, I layed it out in the grass to dry and I layed next to it too. This weekend is the holiday and there will be little flags in all the flower beds and bunting on everyones porch. Someone will bake a poke cake with jello and another will make hotdogs on the grill. I will be out of town camping with my freinds. It will be fun, lots and lots of fun. I will miss watching the soccer games, the way the players pirouette like atomized particles. they look like specks of snow flurrying acrossed a green sky. maybe I can listen on the radio. This morning I drew a picture of a woman with great big tusks and later, after work ill play my guitar.

Today I am tired. I didnt sleep last night, too many festivities. I arrived back home from my trip to the north with my freinds, friends I have known since I was a little child. Last night we stalked along the dark ridge surrounding a great lake. Across the lake, across the pitch black goulish water, fireworks blossomed in celebration of the holiday. Motor boats looked like little islands of light suspended in the a void. We watched above the boat launch as people tried and failed to dock their crusers. we must have sounded like jackals on that dark bluff, laughing hideously as the drunkards yelled at eachother. Later we swam, the water was the same tempeture as my body. We met and talked to a strange man whospoke in a stilted way. He told of us his ailments for several hours, we listened patiently and all shook hands at the end of the night.

O' sleep, why did you visit so late last night? Last night I got a paltry 4 hours of rest. I am awake now and working, the coffee and the ADHD medication make me feel like a horse under seige from flies. Yesterday there was a break in the weather. The skies clouded over and started to sag from the weight of rain. When the storm started, the rain came down in great big drops and pummeld the roof and grass. the trees swayed wildly and when the sun broke through again, the leaves were shiny and taught looking, like a reptiles skin. I watched soccer intently and took great pleasure from the poetry of the british commentators language.

Today, hot again. No rain for several days, no cool breeze, no clouds. The surface of the earth appears parched. Several days ago, on a drive through the country, I noticed the treetops lining the road looked as if all the color had been sapped from their leaves. The sky now pale blue, with ghostly thin clouds that stretch across the whole dome of the sky. This morning I drew a picture of some wild cat, bright orange and brown with jade eyes. I drew him creeping out from between hillocks. For lunch I ate a cheeseburger from Burger King. I am working today, and want nothing more than to go home, or even better to be outside and out of the city.

On the weekend I overslept each day, not waking until the early afternoon. I feel that weekends goes by at least doubly as fast as weekdays do. Although its true that time, or my perception of it is almost completely allusury. The time between birth and death might as well be less than a second. On sunday me and my friends flooded a baseball diamond high on the peak of a giant hill that lurches over the town where I live. We played kickball like kids at recess. Kicking is my favorite, because if im in the outfield I always get lost in thought, staring at the clouds or some cluster of birds. I love the empty thud as you kick the ball, the way it arks high off your sneakers. Up, up, up. then hanging for one sunny moment, suspended over the outfeild, then its descent. faster, faster, plummeting now towards a fielder then someone snatches it from flight, wrestling with like a hatching egg. YOURE OUT. Or if fate favors you, the feildman fumble with the ball, dont catch it, and itstead have to rely on passing the ball inward, to baseman, to pitcher! The line of transport like frantic ants clutching some red rubber crumb. all the while you run, almost blindly to the base, and the next base, soon tracing the rhombic lines of the feild. then to home? if youre , yes.
